Your mission in dance

You communicate about your nonprofit’s mission all the time. You write it, speak it, try to make it come alive in the minds of your donors and supporters. But could you dance it?

I recently came across this great video in which PhD student Dwi Kemaladewi explains his thesis research in dance. Take a look–it’s really worth a few minutes of your time:

There’s a lot to love about this video, but I’m especially impressed with how successfully and simply it communicates an enormously complicated idea. I’m no scientist (and no dancer either), but after watching this video, I get it–even though I don’t speak the language of his research, Kemaladewi has helped me understand and appreciate what he’s working toward.

Imagine choreographing your nonprofit’s mission. What are the key points you’d need to communicate? How would you make it clear, simple, and easy to understand?

Your organization’s work is important and often complicated–it can be challenging to find the right words and avoid jargon. So why not start by finding the right dance moves instead? By thinking a little differently about what you do, you might just come across some great ideas for telling your story.
