The power of staying real during your presentations

In his TEDxTalk, Brad Heckman, CEO of the New York Peace Institute, explains how to mediate mindfully without using PowerPoint, video, or any other technology. Instead, Brad uses what he feels most comfortable with: drawing, storytelling, and his own charming sense of humor.

Watching Brad in action got me thinking about how rarely we see leaders of nonprofits presenting in ways this simple, personal, authentic, and fun. Perhaps next time you’re prepping for an important presentation or board meeting, consider resisting the urge to drop copy into a PowerPoint template. Instead, explore how you might communicate in a more personal and engaging way; for instance, how you’d share something important with your friends and family.
